Just A Little Guest Room Love...

Another project for the B&B guest room.  I am just plugging away on projects for this room, as I have never had a room designated just for a guest room.  I have shared a guest room with my craft room, but with the new house I have a real guest room and a real craft room.  So today's project is just a little guest room love...

I started with a left over piece of a beautiful flour sack I purchased in a pack from Fleet Farm, they are inexpensive and beautiful!  I hand cut out 2 hearts and on one piece I sewed on 4 different pieces of lace... I LOVE lace! Then added a few buttons in the colors of the new quilt for the bed.  Putting right sides together I sewed around the heart, leaving a small opening for turning and stuffing.  I then snipped small cuts around the heart before turning it right side out, also remember to snip the point off, but be careful not to cut into the thread.  She has a beautiful point on her, but the pictures don't show it very good... wished I would have seen that earlier!  And then I stuffed it, and hand stitched the edge closed.

I tied a bow made with silk ribbon I received on a present some time ago...I never throw anything beautiful away!  I added a small strand of white pearls under the bow and then sewed them onto the heart.  My heart is about 8" wide by about 7" high.  And she is beautiful!  One more project done for the new room and it will be making it's reveal soon...

Just wanted to share how much my Aero Garden (this one is petunia's) has grown from a week or so back when I first showed it to you.  I have had to raise the top almost to the top height...as the plant grows you don't want the light too close and burn the plants.  I think I'll be seeing some buds soon...

A Family Affair

I finally finished my chair...

The chair is a chair that came from my Aunt (my Father's Sister), who was an antique's dealer in South Dakota.  My Mother re-finished the chair and another Aunt (Father's Sister-in-law) had caned the seat, it had seen better years, so I didn't feel bad covering it over.  It was gifted to me by my Father shortly before his death and was in need of a makeover.  I used a mixture of fabrics and patterns to complete it, in toile and checks, the cutest graphic, black and creams and fringe and buttons...all my favorites!

For the seat, I cut a piece of plywood and used a piece of foam, I covered it in batting and stapled a fabric that was from a slipcover I purchased from Target, years ago.  The fabric is very heavy duty and will stand up to normal wear and tear, as it was barely used, why not recycle!  The pillow in the front was made with 2 layers of  the softest muslin and fringe and stuffing that I purchased from JoAnn Fabric's and the sweetest vintage buttons that came from my Mother and Grandmother.  The pillow in the back was also made from recyled curtains in a toile print from Waverly... this is my favorite print and I just can't seem to part with it.  I again used muslin for the front and the same fringe and a pillow form from JoAnn's.  And to top it off I also used some of my sweet vintage buttons...

I gathered the sides all up...I think they call that rusching, and made an envelope back also using the toile fabric.  The graphic came from The Graphic's Fairy and you can find her site here.  If you haven't been to her site I highly recommend it!  She has the greatest graphics, images, blog headers and projects... all free!

And finally it is done, this chair feels like it has been a family affair and I couldn't love it more!  I just had to get one little shot of one of my favorite Valentine Day gifts from my dear sweet hubby.  I left the room and came back to this, placed in front of my favorite spot.  I have a REAL sweet tooth and he knows how to spoil me... love that man!

Hope you all have a great week and do something creative...

Crazy is...

               as crazy does...

 Here's how I spent my day...  yes, that's snow, it's 10 degree's!

I can't wait for spring to spray paint, I have things to do... chalkboards to paint!

Spray painting in Minnesota winters is NOT exactly listed on the can as the best possible environment for this... but Crazy is...what crazy does!!

I think the winter BLAH's have gotten to me.  I can't wait to be outside on my deck enjoying my flowers...

So instead I have my indoor garden...an Aero Garden, and I just love that I can tend for and care for beautiful flowers, herbs and greens all winter long.  This one is my "Lady Bug" garden in my craft room and I have Petunia's that should be budding any day now.  The little red light means she needs water...be right back!

And here is her sweet little top:

Now that I've showed you the sane part of me... here comes more crazy!  I'm decorating bars of soap... yup, you heard that right, BARS OF SOAP!  Dial soap to be exact... the only soap Mr. P. will use.  Anyway it was a fun day and a little something to put on my stand, nestled in my new soft hand towels.

Sorry for the BLURRY photo's my elbow is still giving me a lot of trouble, but getting better everyday.  I have to keep it moving or lose it, so I'm moving... just a little shaky.

I made a sweet little candle with a flameless votive candle inside (I decorated the flameless candle with lace too...crazy, huh?).  You can't really see it in this photo but I Mod Podged vintage postage stamps all around the glass holder and then added lace, flowers, bows and more ephemera to fit my mood today.  I also added a lace flower to the bar of soap and used eyelash yarn...love that soft frilly look you get with that, and then added a clock face and pearl to the center.  So that's what the winter BLAH's has driven me to do... but being creative is what keeps my sanity!

What keeps your sanity when the winter BLAH's hit?  Got to go, I have another coat of chalkboard paint to spray...

Happy Valentine's Day

I had to share my newest project and it seemed perfect for today!

It started off looking like this...
(I'll share more of these re-makes later)

Then became this...

My first attempt with homemade chalk paint... I LOVED it!

 Then became this...

I have had some trouble with my elbow... (notice the shaky photo) I hit it on a window frame hanging curtains a few weeks back and thought I chipped the bone, but it's continued to worsen.  I think it might be bursitis...if you've ever had this you know how bad that can be, so please forgive my absence... I'm not to good at being one-handed (of course it was my writing arm) and chicken pecking!

I had lots of fun working on this for my new Guest Room... my B&B Guest room!  It's still in progress, but coming along.  I added a Tim Holtz spring clip inside the frame so that I can change out the ephemera to the Season or Holiday.  Being Valentine's Day today I thought this little girl with her sweet angel wings was appropriate.  This lovely little girl was sent to me by one of my sweet followers and I am so sorry but I didn't keep good enough records THEN, so please excuse that I'm not giving you credit.

Have a Happy Valentine's Day with your loved ones!

Wind Wanted...

Have you ever been sailing along, the wind blowing your sails, carrying you along, pushing you in a forward motion with the horizon just in sight and... the wind just dies, you go stagnate and are just sitting still, not losing sight of the horizon, but not getting any closer either.

Now here is where the wind beneath my sails deserts me...

The front foyer, is the only other area on the main level that has yet to be painted.  I know there is one layer of nasty wallpaper... the yucky brown fern paper.  As I start to tear away at it I am horrified to discover there is another paper underneath, and if that isn't bad enough, I'm two stories up...

Wind wanted...   My sails are flat, the horizon is just in sight, but ever just beyond my reach... as is the top of this ladder!  So I packed it in for the month day and have gone back to "My To Do" pile...

But I'm making headway here, the black frames with the stitchery on the left side are the projects I'm currently working on and it's smooth sailing for now...

Working the "ISH" room...

I've been painting in the guest room, this room was incredibly ISH.  It had a horrible greenish, blueish, grayish, DIRTYISH carpet.   So with the addition of the new carpet it was time to tackle the ISH walls. (Doesn't everyone put down new carpet and then paint the walls??)   They were so dirty I had to wash them not once, not twice but threeISH times before the water was mostly clear and ready for painting.

I picked a very light color in this room, a creamy white color that just makes the beautiful golden glow of the oak antiques pop off this soft color.  I love this bed (the one you can't see) and the dresser on the left, they are mine from my childhood.  I just recently was given the dresser on the right... it is very special to me as it was my Father's dresser.  The painting went so well, the color is beautiful, no spills on the new carpet (Amen) and after 2 coats I just love it.  I have been busy washing windows and woodwork, hanging the sweetest lace curtains, painting and re-working accessories.  I put on a new quilt and shams and have plans to sew new pillow cases and some new pillows too. I've got shelves and pictures to hang...  I'm hoping it has that B&B feel to it when I'm done.

I wonder if I can make a reservation... and can I get served breakfast in bed??
